For Lisa's Birthday we decided to to head to Venice. We booked a train in advance, because we wanted to make sure that we got an early morning train. We arrived into Santa Lucia Station which is right on the canal.

We took the water bus to the Rialto Bridge Stop which was near our hotel, because we wanted to go drop off our luggage before grabbing lunch and a few drinks.

After checking in to our hotel, we decided to meander around a few of the tiny streets and did a bit of shopping before meeting up with our friends for lunch. The restaurant we picked had a bit of a wait for our large group, so they gave us free Prosecco while we waited for a table to be ready. The food was just ok, but they dimmed the lights and brought dessert with candles to celebrate Lisa's birthday, so that made for a great experience. Also, the wine was flowing, so everyone was in a good mood.

After lunch, we headed to Catedral de San Marcos (Or Saint Mark's Basilica). It was quite beautiful and had the most amazing tile mosaics. The line to get in was actually pretty short and it's free to get in, so we decided to do a quick tour of the church. They don't allow backpacks though, so a few of us had to check our backpacks. Checking our bags actually took longer than going through the line for the basilica.

There was a man selling roses in the square and since it was Lisa's birthday, it only seemed fitting to get one. Lisa didn't want to carry it around all day so put it in her hat.

We walked around the streets of Venice while enjoying a drink (it's totally legal there) and took in more absolutely stunning views.

A few members of our group wanted to take a gondola ride, while the rest of us wanted to do a bit more exploring (and save the money). We strolled around taking funny pictures and stopping in random shops for limoncello and wine.

We met back up and wandered the streets together enjoying the magical hour of dusk in the colorful city.

Venice is so pretty at dusk

After exploring a bit more, we decided to stop off for dinner and found a little restaurant that felt a bit more authentic than the place that we had been for lunch. An accordion player even stopped in and serenaded us for a bit.

After that, we headed back to the hotel and surprised Lisa with a party in our hotel room, complete with decorations and balloons. It was a great way to end the night.

Party Time!!!

The next morning it was time to leave our quick adventure to Venice and we took a water taxi back to the train station, admiring the beautiful architecture along the way. One day was definitely not enough...
